On Wednesday, Nov. 19, Gavel Alaska will live stream oral arguments from Ketchikan High School in State of Alaska v. Central Council of Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes before the Alaska Supreme Court. The case stems from a conflict between the state the Tlingit and Haida Central Council, a tribal entity. The state and tribe disagree about the extent of the tribe’s powers, specifically, whether the state must recognize and enforce child support orders issued by the tribe.

The proceedings are scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. As part of the Supreme Court LIVE educational outreach program, the oral arguments will be followed by a question and answer session with local students.
