In the final days before the U.S. Senate election, candidates Mark Begich and Dan Sullivan making their final pitches, aiming to rally their supporters to the polls.

The pre-election barrage of advertising regarding the vote for or against Proposition 2 — which would allow the use, purchase and sale of recreational marijuana in Alaska for those aged 21 or older — has been aimed at adult users of the drug.

Democrat Forrest Dunbar is challenging Republican Rep. Don Young for Alaska’s only U.S. House seat. Young is a 21-term incumbent who has literally been the 30-year-old’s congressman his entire life.

As election day nears, Alaska Native organizations in Juneau are making one last big push to encourage voters through a Get Out the Native Vote information rally on Saturday.

If you’re registered to vote, your  voter history — whether or not you voted in past elections — is a public record. So is your name, address and party affiliation. But letters aiming to shame Alaskans into voting by threatening to reveal their voting history aren’t going over well.

Alaska Congressman Don Young angered many of his constituents this week with remarks about suicide at Wasilla High that he later acknowledged were insensitive. Today, Young made the apology the focus of his annual speech to AFN.
